The Opočno Non-European Collections—A Different Perspective? Or, Decolonizing the Castle Interiors.
A tour of selected sections of the Opočno Castle exhibitions, focusing on the collections brought back by Josef Colloredo-Mannsfeld from his travels.
The castle is a place that preserves not only the stories of an aristocratic family, but also the objects with which its inhabitants surrounded themselves. These objects bear witness to the Czech lands’ involvement in the global world as early as past centuries. The tour raises questions about how perceptions of distant cultures were—and continue to be—shaped, and what role the items in the collection play in this process.
